Zo herken je een echte Grade A vintage sweater

This is how you recognize a real Grade A vintage sweater

What does Grade A vintage actually mean?

If you're serious about reselling, there's one thing you need to be good at: recognizing quality .

Every reseller has heard the term "Grade A" before. But what does that really mean?

And more importantly: how do you as a buyer know whether you have a real Grade A sweater in your hands, or just an average sweater with a nice talk?

What does Grade A actually mean?

Grade A stands for high-quality vintage clothing that:

  • Has no stains
  • No holes, tears or heavy wear
  • Clearly noticeable (such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok etc.)
  • Directly saleable without additional work

Please note: it does not mean it is new. It is still worn vintage — but in top condition.

What to look for when purchasing

Whether you buy from a thrift store, a kilo sale or a wholesale box — these signs indicate Grade A quality:

1. Stitching & seams

Check that the sweater is not out of shape or has loose threads. A good sweater still feels sturdy.

2. Collar & sleeves

Are these still tight and not fully stretched? Also look for pilling (those little balls of fabric) — that can lower the value.

3. The print or logo

In vintage, the logo is often the gold. Faded is okay, but broken or cracked = loss of value. Look for embroidered logos — they are more valuable than prints.

4. Inside

Grade A sweaters often still feel soft inside. If it's turned into cardboard, or smells like it's been in an attic for 20 years? Skip it.

5. Label & origin

Tags like “Made in USA”, “Made in Canada”, or old Nike/Adidas labels = jackpot. The older and more original the label, the more valuable the item.

Don't fall into these traps

  • “Grade A” on a site with no photos or references? No guarantee.
  • With kilo sales everything is mixed — you have to filter yourself.
  • Stains under the armpits or on the back? That's not Grade A anymore.
  • Are you buying from a supplier who doesn't give any info about condition? Think twice.

Why Grade A counts for you as a reseller

  • You can sell it faster
  • You get more in return
  • You get better reviews from buyers
  • It increases your brand value on Instagram or Vinted
  • You don't have to spend time on washing/repairing

Your margin is literally determined by your eye for quality.

In summary

Grade A = your best friend as a reseller. Learn to recognize it, buy wisely, and sell with pride.

Because vintage is all about one thing: What's really in that piece of fabric?
